March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD) – a time to raise awareness of issues facing women as well as celebrate their achievements. Here are the diary dates for March.
Tuesday 7 March: UN Women Australia IWD Breakfast, 7-9am Perth Convention Centre. Panelists at this year’s event include the inspirational Muniba Mazari, Pakistan’s National UN Women Ambassador, Aleta Miller, UN Women representative for 14 Pacific island countries and Tracey Horton Immediate Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WA). The event will be hosted by ABC’s Tracey Spicer.
Wednesday 8 March: IWD and Zonta Rose Day Breakfast at Rendezvous Hotel, Scarborough, 6.45-8.30am. This event is hosted by the Zonta Club of Perth Northern Suburbs and the Guest Speaker is Kelda Oppermann, CEO of the Zonta House Refuge Associaion.
Wednesday 8 March: WA Women’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, 5-7.30pm, State Reception Centre, King’s Park. This invitation only event will see the Honourable, Kerry Sanderson AC, Governor of Western Australia and Hon Liza Harvey MLA, Deputy Premier, induct inspirational women into the Hall of Fame and Roll of Honour. Who will this year’s inductees be?
Thursday 9 March: Zonta Club of Perth dinner meeting at St Catherine’s College, UWA, 6.15pm. The guest speaker will be Mavis Steenson – the Area 3 Woman of Achievement – who dedicated 28 years of her working life to the Zonta House Women’s Refuge, providing support to many of the 10,000 or so women who have sought safe shelter there. RSVP by noon on Friday 3 March to Liz Terracini.
Monday 20 March: Young Woman in Public Affairs Closing date for applications.
Saturday 25 March: Area 3 Workshop, at Cyril Jackson Senior Campus, 53 Reid Street, Bassendean. Zontians from all the clubs in WA will be getting together to share ideas at this event hosted by Area 3 Director Jo Wittorff and the Zonta Club of Swan Hills.
